How homeopathy helped ease my hay fever symptoms

Hay fever season is upon us and, thanks to alternative medicine, I can safely go outside without the fear of pollen assaulting my nasal passages.

It’s hay fever season again and yet for the past few years I’ve managed to negate my hay fever without the need of conventional medicines. I used to take a daily dose of extra-drowsy antihistamines and a florally flavoured nasal spray but no longer feel the need thanks to a treatment which many doctors would consider quackery; homeopathy.

Hay fever has the ability to make the sufferer truly miserable. For years, I would have an incessant post-nasal drip, sore nose (and a messy shirt!), itchy eyes, throat and ears, a blinding headache and insomnia brought about by sinusitis. Obviously, I wanted rid of my allergies and, after looking into traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic treatments (neither of which provide a straightforward, over the counter service) I decided to give homeopathy a try.

There are many opponents to the practice and theory of homeopathy. Certainly, I can appreciate their opinions as a scientist myself. There are valid arguments, particularly when relating to homeopathic relief for conditions such as fibromyalgia or depression, where outward symptoms aren’t visible to others. Here it is hard to argue against the placebo effect (albeit to the disdain of the aforementioned sufferers) yet hay fever has both tangible and measurable symptoms. Placebo effect it is not.
